Open Critique

This is untitled so far. What do you think it should be called?

Here, I was going for a kind of timeless investigation of the Baroque portrait - an image that might exist anywhere between the 17th to the 21st centuries. I'd love to know what you think. I'm open for critique if you like.

It's amazing. Just beautiful. I think you should call it: A Matter of Time

I just can't stand that canvas surface..it distracts me..

I have painted on panel a great deal. This is actually Linen, but it's a very heavy weave.

I was painting on portrait linen with a very fine weave, but when I went to see Odd Nerdrum's show last Feb, I saw that his paintings were on a twill linen and had this heavy texture. So, I bought some heavy linen because I wanted to force myself to build up the paint surface texture more.

I've found on larger paintings it works well, but one thing I've learned is that the size of the weave has to relate to the size of the canvas and the size of the subject on the canvas (I think if I had zoomed in, say, to paint just a face it would have worked well). So, I agree the weave is a little large on this one.

I think I will call it "Brown Velvet" after the essay that my wife wrote. It seems to embody many of the same concepts.
